Steve was born in Nigeria moving to the UK as a child settling in the Birmingham area. He gained a degree in graphic design and visual communication specialising in wildlife illustration before working in the Faith, Community and Social sector.
Steve has set up several Community Centres in Nottinghamshire and has working in many areas of creative community work and social action. He has worked in schools, churches, hospitals, prisons, disadvantaged communities and projects working with the gypsy and traveller community and projects in Romania and the Gambia. He has a passion for creating community hubs and projects in disadvantaged areas for all ages and needs.
Raising over £1.5 million pounds in funding for the communities he has served over the last 10 years Steve has established community centres, community gardens and many project based solutions bringing people together, reducing isolation through educational, social and therapeutic projects. Steve loves creating programmes which improve health and wellbeing for all ages and needs.
Steve established the Oasis Community Centre and Gardens ten years ago on the site of a derelict youth club and 2 acre recreation field. Now an established base Oasis sees over 10,000 people visiting annually, running over 30 projects including educational and therapeutic Gardening, food growing and floristry projects taking Social Prescribing referrals. Oasis has won the 'UK Social Prescribing awards’ for best local project in 2019 and 2021 and the Centre for Social Justice Award 2021 and has gained the Green flag award and Britain in Bloom awards for the last 6 years.
Steve lives in Retford and is married to Annette and has three children and three grandchildren.
