Online Conference 19 September 2023, 9:00am - 3:00pm
Karen Whybro is a women's safety consultant who advises local authorities, police services and businesses on creating safe spaces in public, at work and online through reducing sexism, misogyny and violence against women and girls. Her pioneering Women's Safety Charter training was developed to engage communities in disrupting behaviours which make women feel unsafe through raising awareness of male violence and active bystandership. Karen has trained 500+ police officers in creating positive cultures and improving attitudes towards women through establishing open and honest communication around sexism in the workplace. Karen is also research associate and PhD Candidate at the University of Portsmouth, researching how the night-time economy can reduce violence against women and girls through the delivery of effective campaigns to effect behavioural change in individuals. Her current research looks at how to effect change in men and boys through an understanding of psychology, effective communications and behavioural change.
