Eva Echo

Activist | Educator | TEDx Speaker | Writer

Eva Echo (she/they) is an activist, educator and TEDx speaker with a focus on transgender rights, intersectionality and mental health. She uses her own experiences and intersectionality to shed light on what it is to be transgender and to challenge the obstacles which gender diverse people face within today’s society. Most notably, Eva took legal action against NHS England in the High Court to challenge the unlawful waiting times for trans patients. She won the DIVA Award for “Unsung Hero of the Year 2022” and was named one of the Top 12 “Outstanding Contributors to LGBT+ Life” at The British LGBT Awards 2024. Eva has appeared on the DIVA Power List for the last three consecutive years and named in the Pride Power List for the last two years. Eva won Trans in the City's Trans Community Champion award for 2022 and went on to join the organisation as Events Manager. She is also Director of Innovation at Birmingham Pridean ambassador for the charities Diversity Role Models and Queer Britain, and also sits on the Crown Prosecution Service’s hate crime panel. As of 2023, Eva’s story was included in the Science Museum’s permanent “Who Am I?” gallery, which aims to promote diversity and education to all current and future generations. A cast of Eva’s face was included in Teresa Margolles’ sculpture "Mil Veces Un Instante (A Thousand Times In An Instant)", which was commissioned for Trafalgar Square’s fourth plinth until 2026. The sculpture was created to give visibility to the ongoing struggles and abuse which trans+ people face. In 2024, Eva was selected as one of UN Women UK’s delegates to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68). Since 2012, Eva has been a Guinness World Record Holder for drumming.
