Online Event 25 August 2021, 9:00am - 26 August 2021, 2:00am
Ana Waddington is currently working as part of the After Trauma team, as a major trauma nurse coordinator, supporting trauma patients through their journey, both emotionally and physically. She previously worked as a senior nurse in the paediatric emergency department, becoming especially interested in serious youth violence. Ana was awarded RCN Nurse of the Year 2020 for setting up her own charitable community interest company www.yourstance.org which aims to reduce the amount of young people dying from serious injuries by teaching bleed control to at risk young people in London. The project also hopes to tackle compassion fatigue within healthcare towards this patient group by connecting healthcare professionals to young people through workshops. Ana's interest in adolescent trauma led her to start the role as Major Trauma Coordinator, and has recently also set up the first ever Violence Reduction Network for Nurses, with the idea of connecting individual nurses and their work in violence reduction across the country. Ana believes in that young people affected by serious youth violence deserve to be recognised as a unique patient group and is eager to support healthcare professionals in feeling more comfortable in treating this patient group. She also regularly teaches on various study days around adolescence, adolescent trauma and violence reduction. Recently she was invited to become an honorary lecturer in Adolescents, for the 'Dont Forget The Bubbles' Queen Mary Emergency Medicine Msc, and has become an advisory board member for the Emergency Nursing Journal. Ana is half Spanish, half British, having been born in Santiago, Child, and speaks 5 languages as a result of living in various countries throughout her childhood.
