He joined Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service in January 1995, since 2018 he has been responsible for a number of departments including Collaboration, JESIP, Training and Development Academy, Operational Planning and Policy, Operational Intelligence, Operational Procedure Review Team, Business Continuity, Fire Control, Transport & Workshops, Operational Resources, MFRS Search & Rescue Team, Marine Rescue Team, Estates and Fire Control.
