Overview

The Institute of Government and Public Policy is pleased to present this intensive five-day programme, delivered in partnership with In Professional Development (INPD). The Directors Development Programme Accelerator is designed for senior leaders who are operating at board level, or who are preparing to do so, and want to build the governance, financial, and strategic capabilities that modern directorship demands.

The programme takes a practical, applied approach, working through the five core pillars of effective directorship: the legal and ethical duties of a director, financial oversight, the strategic implications of AI and digital innovation, strategic leadership, and the role of culture and people in sustaining organisational performance. Each day builds on the last, creating a joined-up development experience that reflects the complexities directors navigate in practice.

Participants engage with real-world board-level scenarios, expert-led sessions, and peer discussion, leaving with sharper judgement, greater confidence in the boardroom, and a clear action plan to enhance their effectiveness as leaders. The programme is suitable for current directors, newly appointed directors, and senior leaders preparing to step into a board-level role across any sector.

Participants who wish to pursue a formal academic qualification can optionally enrol on the Postgraduate Certificate in Strategic Leadership for Directors, validated by the University of Chester at Level 7. This can be completed within seven months of the programme and provides a direct pathway into the University of Chester’s full MBA.
