Dr Sophie Wickham holds a Wellcome Trust Research Fellowship in the Department of Public Health, policy and Systems at the University of Liverpool. Sophie is part of a team that research the effects of welfare reform and poverty on different aspects of health and health inequalities, having done extensive research on health inequalities in the UK, and on the health consequences of poverty. Sophie’s fellowship has focused on the impact of policies that aim to reduce child poverty on child and maternal mental health and health inequalities. This involves using national longitudinal data sources to evaluate the health impact of national policy changes, with her most recent work investigating the mental health impact of Universal Credit.
